Introduction

I own a 1995 Camaro Z-28 M6 with just under 65k. Working on my Z in my spare time is one of my favorite hobbies and I am always eager to learn something new about them. I have only been to a drag strip once, but it was enough to get me hooked on "modding" my Z-28 out. The best run at the track I could get was a disappointing 15.02 @ 96.42 mph. My 0-60 ft. time was a terrible 2.728 seconds, which was the best launch I got all day on my bald street tires (they appear to be slicks). I was obviously having terrible traction problems and I am sure my inexperience did not help. I was embarassed with my time, so being the spontaneous person that I am, I decided to purchase some new gears. I have read over and over again that with the T-56 tranny, 4.10's will really "wake" it up. Some may laugh at me right now because a higher gear ratio is bound to make my traction problem even worse. To counteract this effect, I bought new tires. The gears I installed were GM Motive gears from LS-1 Speed. Check them out for some of the lowest prices on the internet. I also bought a master install kit complete with all shims, bearings, bolts, and paint to check the pattern. You can find gears with a master install kit on the internet for $270. Originally my dad, who was a mechanic at a local Chevrolet dealership for six years, was going to help me with the project, but he was too busy with his new job. So it was just me, a young 21-year old punk with no formal mechanics training, to tackle one of the most difficult installs. Being born to a master mechanic definitely prepared me to handle such a task and I was up to the challenge. Make sure if you decide to do this, you have enough self-confidence and patience to handle the invetiable problems you will be faced with. If I can do it you can, but read these entire instructions before beginning. Here we go!
